There are various types cremation services that can be organised. There is no right or wrong, following is a brief outline of the options.
Nil Service with Nil Attendance
This option is the most affordable. Next of kin authorise the funeral director to transfer the deceased into their care. Funeral director organises all the relevant paperwork and cremation permits. After the cremation the family collect the ashes and may scatter ashes or have a memorial service.
Service followed by a private cremation.
The family may wish to organise a service either in our chapel facilities or other venue like church or hall. Following service a private cremation is organised and the family collects the ashes from the funeral director

The service may take place in our chapel, church, crematorium chapel or other venue of choice, a full crew will be in attendance overseeing all aspects of the service right through to committal for cremation

Did the deceased had to have left written instructions in order to cremate ?
NO, however it is ideal that written instructions were provided – possibly in a will or a prearrangement with funeral director, in order to avoid any ambiguity, uncertainty or objection by a family member.
A verbal or with a general consensus amongst family, usually suffices, as long as there is no direct objection by family or legal challenge.
Why do pacemakers and the like need to be removed ?
These are devices that will explode in the cremator, therefore the attending medical practitioner and a second doctor – known as the Medical referee, who is registered for this process must both issue cremation permits that indicate whether a pace maker is present.
Normally the funeral director’s mortician will remove the device prior to the medical referees attendance.
Are metal implants removed prior to cremation ?
No, these are removed and disposed off after the cremation process is complete.
Is the coffin cremated ?
Yes. Health regulations are very strict on this process and adhered to by all reputable funeral directors and crematoria. A full metal coffin or casket cannot be cremated.
Can family watch Cremation ?
No, but may witness the insertion, crematoriums usually charge a fee for this.
Sometimes, this may be cultural or religious.
Can family see the smoke from the smoke stack ?
Although this may be a cultural or religious requirement, it is increasingly more difficult to accommodate as most crematoriums are upgrading their facilities to emission free cremators in order to become environmentally friendly.
How long does it take for a cremation of an adult and when can ashes be collected ?
An average cremation takes about 1 ½ hours, but ashes need approximately 24 hours to cool down before collection.
Can ashes be exported overseas ?
Yes but an export permit needs to be issued by the Crematorium, a funeral director can organise this on behalf of the family.
